Success Stories

  • Cost-Effective, Fast-Track WRC Furnace Upgrade Yields Dramatic Emission Control Improvements
  • The new “smart” burner controls, including GE Intelligent Platforms QuickPanel Mini and other equipment panels, are running on GE Intelligent Platforms CIMPLICITY®* HMI Plant Edition software platform. This easy-to-use, web-based monitoring and control software consolidates the collection of data from devices throughout the burning process, then transforms that real-time data into dynamic text, alarm and graphic displays. Information is presented on users’ PC screens and on a 42-inch plasma digital monitoring and display screen located in the central control area for a quick, easy-to-view snapshot of the system.

  • Water is Cleaner with GE Intelligent Platforms
  • The “brain” of the system is a GE Intelligent Platforms PACSystems RX3i in redundant hot backup configuration which interfaces with all the field instruments on a Profibus network (part optical fibres and part copper wires); there are several new and old sensors in total, amounting to approximately 600 controlled tags. The two redundant CPUs ensure the high plant availability required by the application criticality. A local computer running GE Intelligent Platforms Proficy HMI/SCADA CIMPLICITY software collects, monitors and displays information and data, in the form of trend or log, in addition to alarms, which may be silenced or not by the users according to their access levels.

  • GE Intelligent Platforms Controls Save Sinking Systems at Two NC Wastewater Treatment Plants
  • Instead of the expensive upgrade, Greensboro found an alternative with a new Series 90TM-70 programmable logic controller (PLC) and CIMPLICITY® monitoring and control software system from GE Intelligent Platforms. The North Buffalo conversion to a PLC ultimately proved more economical than the originally planned upgrade and it allowed the City to convert to a PC-based solution. Moving away from the old control system configuration resulted in a 65 percent reduction in maintenance costs that quickly returned the PLC investment.

  • Hazel Crest Water Plant Riding Automation Wave
  • Hazel Crest’s intake from Harvey and distribution to East Hazel Crest is monitored by CIMPLICITY software to prevent overcharges and undercharges. Ease of learning was a major factor in Hazel Crest’s selection of the software. “The Windows®-based CIMPLICITY software is very user-friendly,” Davis says. “Point and click is much simpler to use and familiar for the operators.”

  • N-Tron Case Study - Wastewater Management
  • The incoming sewage does not stop, so 24/7 operation is an absolute requirement. All components of the system must have a high MTBF and any and every method of redundancy is taken advantage of to prevent shutdowns or accidents. This is especially true of the Ethernet switches in the network. If the network goes down, the flow stops, or worse.
