Energy Management
The volatile price of energy has put increased pressure on the executives in energy intensive industries. It is now more important than ever to understand a plant’s energy needs and to cut out wasteful energy consumption wherever possible so that companies can improve predictability into their energy usage.
Metering
There are two ways on how to collect data across the enterprise, manual data collection which is very cumbersome, and automatic collection of energy data. From basic metering to high end transient capture and flicker detection Gescan offers a full range of commercial, industrial and utility grade meters. Accuracy of power and energy measurement ranges from 0.5% to 0.02% on full scale. All meters use open architecture protocols such as industrial standard ModBus RTU and DNP 3.0 making them easy to integrate to third party systems and PLCs. Power Line Carrier communications, Ethernet and Web options are also available. Meters are readily accessible through enterprise software for monitoring, control and cost allocation.
Boiler Control Benefits
As fuel is the largest single expense for your facility, controlling operating variability is critical to efficiency. Things like Fuel variations (pressure, temperature, BTU, pH), Combustion air variations (pressure, temperature, humidity, fan performance), boiler fouling, and Control system accuracy all increase the amount of fuel required. Optimizing your control system to adapt to these ever changing conditions can drastically reduce your overall fuel consumption.
VFD Benefits
Investing in energy efficient hardware such as variable frequency drives, cooling and heating systems is extremely helpful in reducing energy consumption. For example variable frequency drives can be used to save energy on rotating equipment such as fans, pumps, conveyors and machine tool drives by controlling the speed of a motor through adjusting the power supplied to the equipment. A fan or pump that is operating at full load when it doesn’t need to be has been identified as a major source of energy waste.
Lighting Benefits
Anyone can capture energy savings by exchanging old energy inefficient technology with new technology available in the marketplace today, but are they capturing the most energy savings possible? Has reducing the number of fixtures while maintaining the required level of lumen output been considered? Is the use of photocells being considered where daylight harvesting is an option? There are endless options, and our goal is to find what fits best for each organization without leaving any energy savings on the table. Our objective is to maximize energy savings while achieving optimum light levels throughout the facility.
